Don't forget about the point god

Updated: Mar 9, 2022

The Phoenix Suns have been one of the best teams in the league all season long, but with the playoffs just a few weeks away, they have what could be considered their first true test of the 21-22 season.

Their leader and all star point guard Chris Paul was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture of his right thumb which will keep him out of the line up for the next 6-8 weeks. With the injury keeping Paul out for likely the rest of the regular season the Suns could have a challenge to maintain their status as the one seed in the NBA. Fortunately, they currently have an 8 game lead over the 2nd seeded Memphis Grizzlies. In Paul's absence the Phoenix suns will look to Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton to lead them the rest of the regular season.

As for fans of Chris Paul like myself this obviously is an disappointing occurrence for what has otherwise been a stellar season for the 36 year old future hall of famer. Despite this injury, I still believe this could be a blessing in disguise as this is an injury that likely won't linger when he does return to the lineup. With Paul slated to be back by the start of the playoffs he should have fresh legs when he does return to game action.

When Paul does return there is no reason to doubt that he will be back to playing at a high level. Since Paul will be out for the stretch run of the season it can be easy for some fans to forget that Paul was playing at an MVP caliber level. Before the injury he was easily having one of the best seasons of his career by leading the Phoenix Suns to the best record in the NBA where at one point they won 18 games in a row. He also still has a league high average of 10.7 assists per game which is further proves his status as the best pure point guard in the game today. If Paul is able to return to form I believe the Suns will have a strong chance to go on a championship run to achieve his first NBA title of his illustrious career.
