The Las Vegas Aces have been on a roll so far this season as they have been the best team in the WNBA all season long. The Aces currently have the best record in the league at 19-2 and do not appear to be slowing down any time soon. After winning the WNBA title last season, the Aces found a way to get even better by adding 2-time WBA champion Alysha Clark and 7-time All-Star in Candace Parker. Adding two talented veterans with a team that already includes stars like A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and Finals MVP Chelsea Gray has turned the Aces into a proverbial super team. With that said, is there anyone that can stop an Aces repeat.
The Aces dominance starts with their leader in the reigning MVP and defensive player of the year in A'ja Wilson. Wilson is their leading scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker averaging 19.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, and a league high 2.2 blocks. Her individual dominance is supported by two other All-Star teammates in Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young. The trio are all top 10 scorers in the WNBA this season and have been selected as starters for the WNBA All-Star game. Plum recently had one of the best games in her career, dropping 40 points in a win over the Minnesota Lynx.
Their statistical dominance as a team is just as impressive as any individual player on the roster as the Aces have been brilliant in every facet of the game this season. Nearly half of their 18 wins have been by double digits as they continue to show they are the best team in the league. Their point differential is a staggering +15.2 with the second place Liberty far behind at +6.6. With all the talent on the roster their ability to score is no surprise as the Aces are by far the best offense in the league averaging 93.9 points per game. Not only can they score effectively they also do it more efficiently than anyone else as they have the highest team field goal percentage at 50.3%. They are equally as potent defensively sporting a top five defense and the league high average in blocks at 5.5 blocks per game.
The defending champion Aces have been unstoppable this season and appear well on their way to capturing a second straight WNBA title. The only team I think has a realistic chance is another talented team in the Liberty who made the biggest offseason move acquiring 2-time WNBA champion Breanna Stewart. The Liberty are the second best team in the WNBA at 14-4 and are likely the most talented team outside of the Aces and have arguably the league's best player in Stewart. Still, I don't see any team beating the Aces right now but we still have a lot of season left to go before a champion is crowned or possibly recrowned.
